The outcome of the Hamble Quarry appeal was scarcely a surprise after Hampshire County Council withdrew its objection but it remains a travesty and an indictment of the way public planning is carried out in this country. In spite of the quality and quantity of evidence raised against the plans for gravel extraction permission was granted with scarcely any remedial action required by Cemex. A planning system which cannot take account of damage to other businesses affected by the impending traffic gridlock, or the threat to emergency services access to those living in the peninsular with a single point of failure is patently absurd. It puts into question whether all the time and effort that went into making and stating a case against the plans was worthwhile or merely futile.

The fight to oppose the quarry development on Hamble airfield must continue because the damage to our environment and heritage will be immense and irretrievable. Hamble Parish Council are considering continuing resisting the development of the airfield if necessary through the Courts. This will require funding so please contribute to the cause in any way you can.
