HCV saves slow worms!

Many of you will know about slow worms but for those of you don't they are neither worms or snakes and are legless lizards having eyelids unlike snakes. They are not endangered yet but do have protected status as their population is in decline.

Recently a teacher at a local school contacted us as she was concerned that slow worms had started to breed in the schools recycling bins and they had been found by the school children who, far from being frightened, regarded them as pets. Clearly this was not going to help the slow worms increase their numbers so on a Saturday a member with considerable experience of wildlife moved the slow worm 'nest' to a position where they were unlikely to be disturbed.

We find it encouraging that a member of the public was confident that we would have the expertise to handle this type of situation and we were able to resolve the situation for all concerned apart perhaps from the children who have lost their pets!
