Beach Cleans

It is an unfortunate fact of life that not everyone respects our environment, even those who use the Common and its beaches on a regular basis, so there is a continuing need to sweep the beaches for litter.  Most of the litter is unsightly but a significant proportion is hazardous to wild life, domestic animals and us.  We carry out litter sweeps on two Wednesdays every month with the occasional special ‘blitz’ if there is additional support.  The current record for a day is 28 bags of rubbish achieved by a solid turnout of regular volunteers bolstered by a large number of staff from NICE Systems UK based in Hedge End.
