You will not be surprised to hear that Covid 19 has curtailed almost all of our usual tasks as they do require group activity. That said those of us who live in close proximity to the Common and use it for daily exercise are continuing with rubbish collection on a solo basis. Anyone wishing to do this but would appreciate using our litter pickers and bag holders should contact Philip and he can arrange to leave equipment out for you at an agreed date and time. Now is not the time for scrub clearance even by individuals as bird nesting is well underway.

On a more positive note Eastleigh District Council’s clearing of the under-road drain of the pond opposite School Lane car park has certainly paid off and the water level of the pond is now far more consistent. Furthermore they have made valiant efforts to clear the pond of an invasive feather weed that was remorselessly covering surface water and it is now providing a valuable habitat to wildlife. The photograph shows a mallard couple raising a very large brood on the pond.
