Good luck to everyone who raised objections to Cemex's application to extract gravel from Hamble airfield.

In our view there are many shortcomings in the application but the most serious one is the lack of a transport link which could support the level of road access they anticipate. Hampshire County Council are already aware of the problems with Hamble Lane which tries to give access to Hamble and Southampton on a single carriageway. Unlike many parts of the country with traffic congestion, Hamble is highly unusual being at the end of a peninsula with a single point of failure with the risk of cutting Hamble off entirely including emergency services.

We are also concerned that the loss of a long term well used amenity for recreation and exercise will inevitable result in greater use of alternatives areas such as Hamble Common with its SSI status and key enviroment for many forms of wildlife.
