It is a number of years since we were able to give the historic AA gun at Hamble Point car park its annual paint. Ever since the fence was erected around it following erosion to its concrete mounting, we have watched with dismay as the gun suffered corrosion. Eventually a decision was taken to resite the gun to the southern end of the car park and with Covid restrictions relaxed we were able to restart its refurbishment. The first day was spent removing rust with power tools followed by a session applying an antirust undercoat. The final authentic top coat will be applied next week. We work under the direction of Eastleigh Borough Council who provided the paint but we must thank MDL Marinas who provided us with electricity for our tools and also Litrus Marine Fabrication Ltd who provided us with repair materails again at no cost.
