We have been very busy during the Autumn on a number of tasks set for us as usual by Eastleigh Borough Council but also now by Hamble Parish Council.  Both councils clearly find our assistance invaluable but we are concerned that we are getting to the point where we cannot match their requests with our resources which are principally human effort!  We have been giving thought as to how we might increase our capability and are aware that one of the limitations is that the tasks are always on weekdays which rule out those holding down jobs with conventional working hours.  Some of the tasks do not need council on site supervision and we are considering whether we should programme tasks for weekends.  If this is of interest to you please make contact with us so that we can gauge whether the turnout is likely to be sufficient for the scale of the planned tasks.

Recent tasks include building an earth barrier with a volunteers mini digger in an attempt to stop fly tipping on Westfield Common.  Planting memorial trees near the Hamble lifeboat station and a scrub clearance and controlled burn of the resulting debris near the iron age fort remains.

The saga of the historic AA gun at Hamble Point is becoming increasingly exasperating.  A year on from the original undermining of the gun's foundations it is now in a precarious state.  We understand that a decision was made to move the gun and resite it but this was blocked at the last moment by Historic England which ruled that it would be illegal to move it as it is a historic monument.  However, it appears that no action will be taken to save it in its current location!
